Another Approach To Fibromyalgia
Now established as a real medical entity after years of skepticism, fibromyalgia (FMS) still lacks a coherent theory of causation and uniformly effective orthodox therapies. The problem appears to be something metabolic, since it affects widely varied areas of the body, and is frequently associated with pain, fatigue, insomnia, and multiple other symptoms. Here at Caring Medical we often find hormonal and nutritional imbalances, which when corrected, go a long way towards restoring a pain free existence for these patients. In conjunction with natural medicine evaluation, we also frequently administer Prolotherapy injections to the most painful areas, thus eliminating many of the major trigger points which create so much of the pain.

Our theory, and one that is commonly respected among knowledgeable physicians today, is that fibromyalgia is actually a dysfunction within the energy producing factories located in each body cell...the mitochondria. The blockage in cellular energy production has variously been attributed to various external toxins, heavy metals, and nutritional or neurotransmitter imbalances. For the last ten years Caring Medical has also been one of the few medical facilities to give validation to the theory propounded by clinician R. Paul St. Armand, MD relating to the possible therapeutic role of the over the counter drug guaiphenesin. Although we generally attempt to stay away from the use of pharmaceuticals as much as possible, we have used this drug safely and successfully, and feel good about doing so because it appears to work to correct a basic level of cellular dysfunction in fibro patients. Basically, Armand's theory is that FMS is caused by a build up of excess phosphate ions within the cells and their mitochondria, and that this drug helps by aiding the kidney in the process of removing it. We also prescribe specific intracellularly active nutrients which help open up the channels of mitochondrial energy production.

Armand's book has many patient testimonials and he has literally thousands of patients who can attest to the benefits of this program. Our experience has also been generally positive when it is applied in conjunction with the rest of our program. The helpful doses range between 600 and 1800mg of guaiphenesin per day, and the patient must eliminate salicylates in oral and cosmetic products, since that aspirin like product will block the beneficial effects of the guaiphenesin. I would encourage any fibromyalgia patient who needs additional help to come in for evaluation and treatment, and take the full course of treatment under our medical supervision. In general we help FMS patients significantly at least 80% of the time. Let us help you.
